I signed up for Preppy’s Medical Billing & Coding program, and I’m excited to share how it went. I had always been interested in becoming a Medical Coder, but the options available around me were either subpar or way too expensive.

During my research, I learned that a lot of employers value university certificates, especially in healthcare. Fortunately, Preppy’s program partners with an accredited university, so I received a university certificate in medical billing and coding for a fraction of the usual cost.
Pocket-Friendly
Preppy claims to offer very affordable training, and I was pleasantly surprised by their pricing. Many full-time programs cost over $30,000, but with Preppy, I paid only $1,599. This made their program a no-brainer for me.
Self-Paced Courses, On-Demand Classes
I needed a program I could study at my convenience, given my schedule as a single parent. Preppy’s online course allowed me to learn at my own pace, which was perfect.
Finished My Training in 5 Months
Preppy’s program is focused entirely on medical billing and coding, allowing me to complete my training in just five months. I didn’t even study every day; it was a few hours 3-4 times a week. Their program access lasts a year, which is more than enough time to finish.
Certification Ready (CPC & CBCS)
Getting certified is crucial for a Medical Coding career. Preppy’s curriculum prepared me well for the CPC exam, which I proudly passed. I recommend additional exam prep for extra support. I’m also planning to take the CBCS exam to further boost my credentials.

While Preppy’s program is online, they offer both e-books and physical textbooks at no extra cost, just by emailing their support team.
Externship
As a newcomer to healthcare, Preppy’s externship was a lifesaver. I secured an externship at a nearby hospital, providing valuable hands-on experience. This helped ease my nerves before my first job interview.
I’ve now started working as an entry-level medical coder since June. I plan to stay at this job for a year before applying elsewhere.
I Also Got a Free Laptop
Preppy provided a Chromebook as part of the program, which was a nice bonus for note-taking and occasional Netflix watching. You’re allowed to keep it after you complete your training!
In Conclusion
Transitioning to a new career in Medical Coding seemed out of reach a few years ago, but Preppy made it possible. They’re a young company aiming to shake up certification training, and I still can’t believe they offer such affordable programs. If you’re looking to train in Medical Billing & Coding, Preppy’s program is undoubtedly the best choice.
